Postpartum Counselling

Counselling for after the birth of your baby

The transition into motherhood can bring many unexpected emotions, and for some women the postpartum period can feel overwhelming, confusing or very different from what they imagined. You may be experiencing postpartum anxiety, feeling constantly worried about your baby, struggling with intrusive thoughts, finding it difficult to switch off, or feeling like you are always on high alert. Others may experience low mood, guilt, shame, anger, exhaustion, or a sense of feeling disconnected from themselves or the life they knew before becoming a mother.

The postpartum period is a time of huge emotional, physical and neurological change. You may be navigating changes in your identity, relationships, confidence and sense of self while trying to meet the demands of caring for your baby. This transition, often referred to as matrescence, can bring up feelings and experiences that are difficult to process alone. Postpartum counselling and maternal mental health therapy can provide a safe, supportive space to explore your emotions, understand your experiences, regulate your nervous system and reconnect with yourself as you adjust to this new chapter.
