You are not alone as 1 in 5 new mothers experience mental health issues during pregnancy and after the birth of their newborn.

Mum, do you feel anxious, overwhelmed and trying to juggle it all on your own?

Do you feel like you should be enjoying pregnancy and the early years but you just don't, and this leaves you feeling ashamed?

Are intrusive thoughts and self criticism consuming your daily life and making you feel not good enough?

I get it. That was once me. But it doesn't have to be this way anymore.

You feel like you have read all the baby books but feel like nothing has prepared you for this and you're confused by your feelings, thinking that you should be enjoying this time in your life, but it is not what you expected. Maybe, your current struggles are impacting your close relationships and think now is a good time to talk it through with someone who can listen and is impartial.

Becca Mather Counselling

You are not alone

Hello and welcome. My name is Becca and I am a Person Centred Counsellor which means you lead the sessions as I listen, validate  and support you at this time of your life. I am warm, compassionate and non judgemental. I'm also a mum and I have been where you are. Only a few short years ago I had Post Natal Anxiety, Depression and I carried a lot of shame about not enjoying my pregnancies as I had Hyperemesis Gravidarum both times so I understand how it feels to think you're alone at this time. I want you to know you are not alone and this is your time to he heard and supported and for you to see you matter and you're more than a mum, you are still you and you deserve to feel good in motherhood again.

I am based at Amron House in North Shields on Monday mornings and also work online or over the phone. I offer you a place where you can explore your thoughts and feelings with an accepting and non judgemental approach. I will work with every individual in their own unique way.

Counselling can help reduce the intensity of the emotional issues you are experiencing, identify goals of those and promote self esteem and confidence. Weekly sessions are recommended in order to  support your needs and to get to know each other.

Counselling is open ended so how many sessions you have is up to you and will depend on the issues you bring. We will go at your pace. I believe in developing a safe and secure therapeutic relationship which is foundational to your healing. Building trust, rapport and a non judgmental space allows you to feel heard and understood. The quality of our relationship can significantly impact the success of the counselling process, where you can start to experience positive changes, growth and fulfilling relationships with others. I  do recommend to start with 6 sessions and then we can review if needed.
